Fixing Geometric Errors on Polygonal Models: A Survey
-
Abstract
Polygonal models are popular representations of 3D objects. The useof polygonal models in computational applications oftenrequires a model to properly bound a 3D solid. That is,the polygonal model needs to be closed, manifold, and freeof self-intersections. This paper surveys a sizeableliterature for repairing models that do not satisfy thiscriteria, focusing on categorizing them by theirmethodology and capability. We hope to offer pointers tofurther readings for researchers and practitioners, andsuggestions of promising directions for future research endeavors.
