DCF+: An Enhancement for Reliable Transport Protocol over WLAN

Distributed Coordination Function (DCF) isthe basis of the IEEE 802.11 WLAN MAC protocols. This paper proposes ascheme named DCF+, which can be regarded as an option to DCF, toenhance the performance of reliable transport protocol over WLAN. Toanalyze the performance of DCF and DCF+, this paper also introduces ananalytical model to compute the saturated throughput performance ofWLAN. Compared with other models, this model is more accurate, whichis verified by elaborate simulations. Moreover, DCF+ is shown to beable to improve the performance of TCP over WLAN by both modeling andsimulations.
